Series Futsal Australia debutants West Lakes hopes its run of recent good form will put it in good stead against some the best Australian futsal clubs in Perth next week.

After finishing fourth in the regular SA Futsal League, West Lakes went on to secure the coveted Shield and Cup final, defeating Gepps Cross FC 2-1 in the final last week.

Both West Lakes and Gepps Cross have been drawn in the ‘Group of Death’ where they will take on two-time champions Cambio Cumbre and Victorian powerhouse club Pascoe Vale FC.

West Lakes key player Haris Buckic says that his team’s recent run of success in the SA Futsal League is sure to rattle a few of the big clubs.

“We’re in the deep end for our first SFA, but it should be good fun, we’re looking forward to it,” Buckic told SeriesFutsal.com.

“We’re the new team, and we’re in the group of death, but the SA league has been strong leading into this. We’ve beaten Adelaide and we’ve beaten Gepps Cross, so it has given us a lot of confidence.”

Buckic says that finishing inside the top three in their group is the aim, and a semi-finals berth would be a bonus.

“Hopefully, we can finish first, second or third. I think we’d be happy with a result like that, but of course, we’d love to get into the semi-finals.

“Being the new guys, no one knows much about us so hopefully we can spring a surprise or two.”

The opening games of Series Futsal Australia will be next Friday, October 7 at the WA State Futsal Centre.
