AUS: All NSW final in dramatic Womens FAFL

Womens 2013 SFA

The Parramatta Blues have been crowned the inaugural Womens FAFL Cup champions after a hard-fought win over Rovers Futsal at the Brunswick Futsal Stadium.

After both sides drew in the group stages and had close semi final wins, many had predicted that the result between these two New South Wales sides would go down to the very last second – and it certainly did!

After leading early in the second half, it looked like the Rovers were going to steady the ship and build on their momentum to claim the title, but two quick goals from Trudi Camelleri and Fabiana Perfilio changed the game in Parramatta’s favour.

Perfilio scored undoubtedly the goal of the tournament, sliding to the ball that was going out and chipping the keeper. The Blues, sensing its opportunity, parked the bus and looked to hold its two goal buffer, but a late goal from the Rovers made the final minutes of the game a close run thing.

With less than 30 seconds to go, Parramatta keeper Mel Khoury denied the Rovers a dramatic equaliser, securing the win in a tense finish.

There were also individual awards handed out for outstanding performances over the weekend, with Parramatta Blues star Fabiana Porfilio winning the MVP, Rovers Futsal’s Tani Rosekelly winning the Golden Glove and Sarah Richardson (Pascoe Vale), Lauren Didsuko (Parramatta Blues) and Monique Kofoed (Rovers) all sharing the Golden Boot award with six goals each.
