AUS: Fitzroy secures big signing for Series Futsal Australia

Emerging team Fitzroy FC has landed a big signing for this week’s Series Futsal Australia Cup in Perth, West Australia.

Australian international Adam Cooper will suit up in the Fitzroy’s yellow colours, adding class and experience to the youthful line-up.

Cooper is no stranger to Fitzroy’s style of play, having played a number of games for the team’s youth squad two seasons ago.

This will, however, be the first time that he competes in the men’s team.

Cooper will be joined by another regular rival from the Series Futsal Victoria ranks – Jordan Constan. Currently playing for FC Collingwood, Constan has played with Cooper in other teams, making this an important addition to the yellow team.

The two signings add to a slim but impressive 10-man squad.

Fitzroy spokesperson Jimmy Soufis says that Cooper’s experience will be a major plus for the team.

“Adam is a fantastic player and will add a lot to our side,” he told SeriesFutsal.com.

“His experience and knowledge of the game will be the biggest asset for us as well as his proven eye for goal.

“I am very happy with the squad that we have put together. We have a good balance of experience and youth and we will do everything to progress as far as we can.”

Fitzroy will start its Series Futsal Australia campaign in Group B – acknowledged as the ‘Group of Death’ which includes powerhouse teams Cambio Cumbre and Pascoe Vale FC.

“I feel both groups will be difficult but of course holding two of the only three ever winners of the competition in our group is going to be difficult,” Soufis said.

“Also, Gepps Cross has built a solid squad and the danger of not knowing much about West Lakes.

“In the end we can only worry about our own performance and hope we get the desired results.”

The SFA Cup kicks off this Friday afternoon at the WA State Futsal Centre.
