AUS: Hired gun set to shake up Fitzroy’s SFA chances

Gun target Diego Garcia is one of several star recruits for Fitzroy FC as it aims to win its first Series Futsal Australia crown.

Garcia has a rich history in Australian futsal, having played in various leagues and tournaments all around the country.

The West Australian joins a host of new stars for the Fitzroy team, including Adam Cooper, Kui Mu and goal keeping ace Christos Apostolakis.

Fitzroy team spokesperson and player Jimmy Soufis says that the inclusion of Garcia, along with the Brunswick trio is what his team needs to challenge for the title.

“Diego plays as a target which is something we felt we needed to add into the squad,” Soufis told

“Diego has proved himself at the highest level including a world wind performance at the first SFA comp where he put himself on the map.

“We are very happy with the squad we have put together. The new inclusions will add a wealth of experience and will give a lot to our young group.

“We are confident and looking forward to the challenge.”

Fitzroy FC has been drawn in the Group A – labelled as the ‘Group of Death.’ It will face powerhouse clubs Cambio Cumbre FC, Striling FC, Pascoe Vale FC and Gepps Cross FC.

Series Futsal Australia will be held in Melbourne from March 17-19.
