AUS: Pascoe Vale star defects to “home” team for SFA

Leading Pascoe Vale FC star Rebecca Davies will put her Victoria club loyalties to the side and play for Fremantle FC in this week’s Series Futsal Australia tournament.

Davies, who helped Pascoe Vale secure second place in this year’s Series Futsal Victoria women’s premiership, will contest the national crown with her home club Fremantle.

Kicking off this Friday at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre as part of the Arnold Classic, Davies says that it will be a challenge to play against her current team-mates.

“Pascoe Vale is a great side with some quality players, there is no doubt about that,” she told SeriesFutsal.com.

“They have players with depth and experience, but so does Fremantle. It will definitely be a challenge to play Pascoe, however it is a challenge we are very much looking forward to.”

Seven women’s teams will take on the Series Futsal Australia tournament this week, with two West Australian teams and a South Australian team taking on four Victorian heavy weights.

With experience playing on both the east and west coast, Davies says that Fremantle has what it takes to go all of the way.

“I definitely think our side will be competitive against any team we play at SFA,” she said.

“Fremantle has a squad of talented players who work for each other and play a high standard of futsal. The club is like a second family, and with their unwavering support as always, I believe we can make it to the finals. It’s always exciting to play against quality opposition and the girls are ready to prove a point and give 100 percent.”

Davies says that playing at the Arnold Classic is not just a milestone for her career, but a major coup for futsal in general.

“The Arnold Classic provides an opportunity to showcase futsal on a huge platform,” she said.

“Anything that creates exposure for futsal, and especially from my perspective the women’s game, is a big positive.

“We are crying out for a Women’s National Futsal Team and I am certain events like these help the cause moving forward.”

Most of Friday and Saturday’s women’s games will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, supporting the Arnold Classic.

All of the games, including the 10 team men’s competition, will be held at the Thomastown Futsal Oz Stadium.
