VIC: Promotions up for grabs after intense first leg of play-offs

A packed Brunswick Futsal Oz Stadium played host to the opening leg of the promotion/relegation play-offs, with a number of surprise results littering last night’s fixtures.

In the battle for a place in Series Futsal Victoria, the Western Wolves took on Hampton FC, who was looking to turn its third place finish in the State League Championship into a place in the top league.

Hampton held a 1-0 advantage at half-time before the Wolves found an equaliser in the dying moments of the match.

In the other top league play-off, CF Brunswick will take a handy three goal buffer into the second match against Mickleham after Brunswick scored a galant 5-2 victory.

The second leg of these games will be played at the Thomastown Futsal Oz Stadium this Friday evening. For those who can not make the game, the matches will be live streamed on the Futsal Oz YouTube channel.

In the battle for a place in the State League Championship, FC Collingwood secured a big 6-1 win over Melbourne University, with Cameron Holmes scoring four of his team’s goals.

Preston FC will take a slender one goal lead into its promotion battle against McLeod FC after the former took a 4-3 win.

In the State League One promotion matches, Melbourne Athletic saw off Toorak FC with a 3-1 win, while RMIT FC’s firmed its chances of remaining in the higher league with a 5-1 win over South Morang FC.

In the State League Two play-offs, North Melbourne went down 4-1 to League Three contenders Kensington Eagles, while Prahan and Coburg Athletic saw out a 4-all draw.

The second leg of all the State League play-offs will be held at the Brunswick Futsal Oz Stadium this Wednesday.
