FOZ: RE-STRUCTURES FOR SOCIAL LEAGUES

Futsal Oz introduces longer social league seasons from 14 weeks to 23 week seasons.

The extended social league seasons means there will only be two social league seasons per calendar year as opposed to three, which has been the Futsal Oz format for the past decade.

“We have listened to our players and patrons’ feedback and there was an overwhelming desire for longer seasons and to not play both of the semi and grand finals on the same night” says Futsal Oz CEO, Peter Parthimos.

“This is a significant change to the way Futsal Oz operates but we won’t shy away from making big decisions because it’s what people are asking for and ultimately we understand that listening to what our players want has been a major reason Futsal Oz continues to go from strength to strength”.

The first of the new social league seasons will run until mid-March 2018 which is 24-25 rounds depending on the stadium, with finals played over the last two weeks of March 2018. With longer seasons and fewer opportunities to win a trophy, the significance of finals now bears more importance and becomes more desirable. With this in mind, Futsal Oz is excited to announce the new finals format which will include the top 8 teams in leagues – the Gold Cup played between the top four teams and the Silver Cup played between 5th to 8th as below:

Week 1 of Finals
1st to 4th will play semi finals for the Gold Cup
5th to 8th will play semi finals for the Silver Cup

Week 2 of Finals
All Grand Finals – Gold Cup Finals and Silver Cup Finals

The Junior Leagues remain unchanged with all league games played during school terms only. The first junior season running over school terms 1 & 2, with the second junior season running during school terms 3 & 4.
