Westgate Wolfpack 0-13 CF South Melbourne

WEST –
SOU – A.Idris 5, J.Sardo 3, A.Komijat 2, N.Italiano 2 & K.Koca

Our first clash of the night saw the Westgate Wolfpack take on ladder leaders South Melbourne. From the outset it was clear South would be too strong and the scoreboard reflected that as they added the opening six goals to no reply with Amira Idris brace meaning she would lead all scorers at the break.

The second half was along the same lines as the Wolfpack had no answers for a dominant South side who added a further seven unanswered goals with Idris finishing the game with a game high 5 goals, supported by a Julia Sardo hat trick and braces to Aneta Komijat & Nat Italiano sealing a routine win for the Champions elect.

Player of the game – Amira Idris (CF South Melbourne)

STATS

Melbourne Amazons FC 3-6 FC Preston

MEL – T.Trinh, E.Enza & R.Grove
PRES – L.Cartanos 2, A.Parsons 2, B.El Khatib & T.Halabi

Next up saw game of the night as Melbourne Amazons faced Preston. A crucial game for both sides and it was the Amazons who opened the scoring through Enza, giving them the lead. Only to be pegged back by a good long throw and a good finish from Tayla Halabi to square the ledger. Bousra El Khatib then finished a scramble in the area as she roofed an effort to give Preston the lead, before Preston won the ball and countered well seeing Leia Cartanos finish to open up a two goal cushion. The goal of the night was then converted by Cartanos who picked the ball out of the air and finished with a scorpion style kick to give Prestona  4-1 lead. Thu Trinh would back-heel an effort home off a good delivery from Deidre Buggraaf to have the Amazons trailing 4-2 at the break.

Early in the second half Rachel Grove finished after the initial shot was saved to have the Amazons back within a goal and now believing they could overrun their opponents. Preston got a vital goal through Amy Parsons to give them some breathing space, before a well worked move saw Parsons finish at the back post to seal a hard fought win for Preston as they continue to chase down South Melbourne.

Player of the game – Leia Cartanos (FC Preston)

FC Balwyn 3-4 North City FC

BAL – S.Peluso 2 & S.Chamma
NOR – J.Sammut 2, J.D’Amore & E.Horton

Next up we saw Balwyn who were desperate for a win face North City who were eager to bring up their second win in the competition. A tight first half saw both sides find the net twice with goals to Stephanie Peluso & Sarah Chamma for Balwyn and Eleanor Horton & Janelle Sammut netting for City to keep the game on a knifes edge at the break.

The second half was just as tight and despite drawing level late on through Stephanie Peluso, Balwyn just didn’t have enough as goals from Sammut & Jessica D’Amore proved too much as North City recorded a much needed victory, while Balwyn just can’t seem to put three points on the board.

Player of the game – Janelle Sammut (North City FC)

STATS

Box Hill Vipers 1-1 (2-3 Penalties) Western Wolves FC

BOX – S.Lionett
WOL – M.Hubeek

The final game of the evening saw Box Hill Vipers face Western Wolves in what was set to be a thriller. The Vipers opened the scoring through Sofie Lionett on the break, only for the Wolves to hit back through a Mary Hubeek strike from range ensuring the two sides would go into the break locked at one.

The second half saw no more goals added to the scoreboard though there were definitely chances with the Wolves having more of the ball and chances to score, though they were constantly denied by the brilliant Gislele Amaral in goals as the game finished 1-1 and went down to a penalty shootout.

In the shootout it was Shakira Van Der Lee of the Vipers who was the unlucky one to miss while all the Wolves converted their chances as the Wolves took home a crucial victory.
