Ashburton does backflip on throw-in rules

Ashburton started the season as one of the throw-in’s staunchest haters. But it didn’t take long for the team to change its tune.

In a pre-season meeting between all stakeholders, Series Futsal Victoria chief explained some of the new rules, including the throw-in, to the assembled team members.

At that meeting, Ashburton’s manager Hamid Hassanikhoo described his displeasure, stating that his team would never use it.

But Ashburton went away, practiced using it during training and came out firing in Round 1.

In fact, they were the first team to score a goal via a throw-in!

Now, they are known as the team that uses the technique the most, and according to Hassanikhoo, it’s a great addition for the game and the fans.

“Honestly, we did not like the throw-in in the first place,” he told SeriesFutsal.com.

“But after Peter’s explanation about this rule, we decided to use this while playing and it seems to work.

“It’s great to use during the match and its entertaining for all of the fans of the game.“

Throw-ins have been a feature of Ashburton’s game, but winning has not. From the three games so far, the ‘Warriors’ are yet to record a win.

“I think we started very powerfully and very entertaining but we could not get results in the end,” said Hassanikhoo, currently recovering from a surgery after an ACL injury.

“But if you compare our last three games from last season, you will notice a big difference – we have a better game plan, new players and it will take time to get the result that we want.”

Ashburton takes on Collingwood at 6:25pm this Sunday.
