There will be more than club pride on the line at Thomastown this weekend during Round 4 of the Series Futsal Victoria premiership.

Former Perth residents and rivals Daniel Cappellaro (FC Balwyn) and Rico Zulkarnain (Fitzroy FC) will face off in what is set to be the ‘Game of the Round’.

Cappellaro and Zulkarnain are two of the biggest stars in the league, with both players known for their fast tricks and skills.

The pair has a chequered history, having played with and against each other in their home state of West Australia.

Cappellaro and Zulkarnain were team-mates at their champion WA club Claremont Cambio Cumbre in years past.

In the recent Series Futsal Australia competition, the pair played against each other in the semi-final, with Zulkarnain’s Cambio Cumbre defeating Cappellaro’s Balwyn team in a heart-stopping semi-final.

Will the result be the same on Sunday? Cappellaro says that he hopes Balwyn’s recent form will give them the edge over Fitzroy.

“I’m really looking forward to playing against Rico again,” Cappellaro told SeriesFutsal.com.

“Given Rico’s high profile debut last week, we know we are going to have approach our defensive set up differently. I don’t think there is a target like him in the league.

“Rico and I have enjoyed some great battles over the years – both together and against each other. I feel that this Sunday is going to be no different.”

Zulkarnain says that expects a competitive game against Balwyn this Sunday.

“I’m expecting a competitive game, for sure,” said Zulkarnain, known as ‘RZ9’ in the futsal world.

“I played and won against Balwyn with Cambio Cumbre at the recent Series Futsal Australia Cup and the game went all the way to extra time. From what I’ve seen, Balwyn is an organised team and play very well as a unit.

“‘D10’ is known for his silky skills, but both myself and the team will be looking to close him down from the very start.

“I’m looking forward to this Sunday’s game after an exciting debut last Sunday in front of a busy crowd at Thomastown. I’m really enjoying my time spent here in Melbourne so far and I believe this game will be another full on show for the spectators.”

The Balwyn v Fitzroy kicks off at 4:05pm this Sunday.
