Leading FC Balwyn player Davide Iacovissi says his team will be ready to combat the high-press of Brunswick in their crucial Round 6 match this Sunday.

Last week against Pascoe Vale, Brunswick employed an aggressive high-press defensive strategy against the reigning champions. The ploy worked for the majority of the match until Pascoe Vale captain Andre Caro took the game into his own hands, scoring two of his five goals in the closing moments of secure the win.

Balwyn’s Iacovissi says that Brunswick’s well-drilled squad will be no easy-beats.

“Brunswick is a good team. They are very consistent. They did good pressure against Pascoe Vale, and for me, they are one of the main teams that try to play proper futsal,” Iacovissi told SeriesFutsal.com.

“They will probably do the same to us and we need to really watch for that.”

Iacovissi, an Italian national, says that Brunswick’s high-press game will place more pressure on his squad, in particular the target, who will need to be able to hold the ball and use it effectively.

“The key of the game is to manage the pressure and to get the ball to the target when we are under pressure,” he said.

“The player in the target position will become very important to us.”

After five games, Balwyn sits on nine points, equal with Brunswick. The winner of this game will instantly secure a top three ladder position.

Balwyn lost its first two matches of the season, but after three-straight wins and a successful Series Futsal Australia campaign, Iacovissi says the team is starting to assert itself.

“The first two losses are still impacting on our ladder position, but we’re finding the confidence we needed,” he said.

“We want to win the league, so we need to make sure there’s no more lapses.”
