Ashburton asks for consistency from officialdom

Ashburton manager Hamid Hassanikhoo is pleading for consistency from Series Futsal referees and officials after a spate of incidents that may have contributed to the team’s results in the past two weeks.

Hassanikhoo claims that there has been a number of inconsistencies in some decisions, including the length of time outs and an incorrect amount of fouls being awarded.

The frustration for Ashburton boiled over in the closing moments of its most recent match against Fitzroy, where a foul and a controversial hand ball inside the keeper’s area were called against the Ashburton.

Hassanikhoo says that he respects the role of the officials, but with the competition getting more competitive, he would like to see more emphasis placed on the better use of the rule.

“Our past two losses have been really disappointing for our team,” he told SeriesFutsal.com.

“We feel we were on the rough side of some calls. I understand that the referee can not make the right decision every time – it’s a fast game and there’s lots happening – but there are some fundamental mistakes being made.

“For the competition to be fair, the simple things need to be addressed.

“Fitzroy took a time-out late in the second half last week. I think we were timed out for almost two minutes. It’s only supposed to go for one minute. That should be a simple thing, and it was frustrating.

“Against Balwyn, we had an extra foul added to our list when it should not have been there. It meant that they had two shots from the 10 metre point, and they should have only had one.

“We copped a penalty for hand ball inside the box against Fitzroy. We feel it wasn’t a hand ball, but these decisions need to be made by the referee and you can’t do anything about those.

“But when there are simple errors happening, that needs to be looked at.”

Ashburton has been one of the strongest teams so far this season, however, they have just one win to their name.

This week, they face a tough challenge against league leaders Hume FC. “We always have close matches with Hume, so we are looking forward to playing them,” Hassanikhoo said.

“We need to put the past two weeks behind us and focus on what we can do against Hume who are a very strong side.”
