Two big upsets have closed up the battle for the 2016 Series Futsal Victoria premiership.

League leaders Pascoe Vale and Hume both suffered convincing defeats, allowing their chasers to pull back valuable points, and more importantly, give the others hope of toppling them.

Hume lost 4-1 to arch-rivals Balwyn, while the undefeated Pascoe Vale was off its best, going down to Ashburton 8-2.

The defeats for Pascoe Vale and Hume, while wins for Brunswick, Fitzroy and Balwyn means that the top five teams are separated by just six points.

While the top five have skipped away, the bottom three are now in a fight for survival. Ashburton’s win will give it a much needed dose of confidence, while Collingwood and Metropolitan remain at the bottom of the ladder with only one win and much work to do.
