There were fouls a plenty as South Melbourne hit 5 fouls halfway through the first period before Doncaster followed suit shortly after. A goal from Carl Zabel followed by Alex Meibusch converting from the 10m spot took South Melbourne 3-1. In the second half it was Doncaster’s game to chase and goals from Alex Lee and Nicholas Hii’s second tied the game. Melbourne University Futsal Club (5th) 2-5 (1st) Hampton Street Futsal Club

MU – E.Tasker, P.Mackenzie (OG)
HAM – D.Grecea 2, T.Topali, O.Hummenyj-Jameson, A.Sahiti

After a not scoring in a loss last week Hampton looked the goods to bounce back against a heavily depleted Melbourne Uni side. Melbourne Uni starting without a bench held on well in the first half until with 3 minutes remaining Tim Topali drew first blood for Hampton. Melbourne Uni had a stroke of luck right on the brink of halftime as Parker Mackenzie put the ball into his net with only 5 seconds on the clock. The second half was much the same as the first in that scoring was barren for majority of the half and it was Hampton again who struck first as Adnan Sahiti popped up to put them in the lead. A tiring Uni side then went down another as Lim gifted Hummeyj-Jameson a goal. Ed Tasker hit back to make things interesting at 2-3 before Daniel Grecea buried the game with two late goals as Hampton took down a valiant Melbourne Uni side.

Man of the Match – Nick Dean (Hampton FC)

2016/17 State League One – Round 16:

Mt. Evelyn Futsal Club (6th) 1-2 (3rd) FC Melbourne Athletic

MTE – E.Kinsella
MEL – B.Wojcik 2

Mt Evelyn lined up still missing Michael Robertson in goals while Melbourne were without their two key defenders Ed Evans and Alex Husseini so a goal fest was on the cards. Bernard Wojcik opened the scoring after 3 minutes when he headed past Phorla Ung in goals as the game was on script, yet after that the goals dried up and 1-0 was the score at half time. Despite not having conceded Melbourne’s defence was not nearly as organised as usual and it was Harry Kitharidis that was coming up with consistent important saves to save his team from being behind. The goal drought continued until yet another header from Bernard Wojcik made it 2-0 with 5 minutes to go. Harry Kitharidis was then finally beaten when first gamer Eamonn Kinsella hit a rocket in off the crossbar as Mt Evelyn scrambled to earn a point the feel they deserved. Melbourne defended hard in the last 2 minutes to secure a result and have their goalkeeper to thank.

Man of the Match – Harry Kitharidis (FC Melbourne)

2016/17 State League One – Round 16:

Vermont Futsal Club (8th) 4-1 (4th) FC Footscray (Futsal Club)

VER – H.Leung 2, Har.Nguyen, S.Tran
FOOT – Meh.Chowdhury

Footscray were 13 points behind 3rd place at kick off and needed every point possible to keep their hope of promotion alive. It was the bottom placed Vermont who started stronger however and Hans Leung capitalised by finishing past new keeper Melvin Lee before Harold Nguyen did the same right before the half time whistle. Footscray hit back early in the second half through Mehraz Chowdhury and then hit the woodwork on numerous occasions as they tried to level up the game. Defending well at the back Simon Tran was having a stellar game and he added a goal against play to really hurt Footscray. The match was finally sealed when Hans Leung pounced on a loose ball to grab his second goal and end Vermont’s 11 game winless drought pulling them off the bottom of the table.
