Former South Melbourne FC legend and Futsalroos captain Fernando de Moraes will make his Series Futsal comeback in the coming months for Fitzroy FC.

Having been resigned to a management role at the club since his ACL injury early last year, de Moraes underwent surgery in March 2016 and has been rehabilitating his knee over the past 12 months.

The expat-Brazilian is keen to get back on the field for Fitzroy, but is planning a cautious approach to his return, which is likely to include some social league games.

“I still feel the knee. It feels stiff, but in a good way,” de Moraes told SeriesFutsal.com.

“I can feel that it is stronger now, but I still have some rehabilitation to go.

“I’ve started some training and I feel I’m getting to a stage where I am ready. I’m going to play a couple of games for some social teams. I could play in Fitzroy’s youth team as well.”

While de Moraes would not commit to an exact come back date, he mentioned the month of April as the best case scenario.

“I’m not worried about coming back too fast,” he said.

“The best case for me would be at the start of the new season in April, but again, I’m not going to rush.”
