Balwyn: Pascoe Vale still the competition benchmark

Balwyn manager Gabriel Zeballos says that his team’s recent victory over champion club Pascoe Vale FC is justification that his club is on the right track.

Despite being ravaged by injuries and unavailable players in recent weeks, the all-blue club has won three of its four games since the return of Series Futsal in 2017, with its only loss coming in the last 30 seconds against Hume FC.

With five rounds to go, Balwyn sits fifth on the ladder, and just one win away from Fitzroy and Brunswick.

Zeballos says that Pascoe Vale should still be regarded as the team to beat this season, but its win against them is a major confidence boaster.

“Pascoe Vale is still the bench mark team, so beating them is an awesome feeling,” said Zeballos.

“You are never lucky if you beat Pascoe Vale … For me, victory against a club of their calibre is a reward for our hard work and gives us confidence knowing we are on the right track.

“Everything we have worked on is paying off.”

Balwyn takes on the struggling Ashburton FC this Friday night – the final game on the evening schedule.

With Ashburton now sitting last on the ladder and facing possible instant relegation, Zeballos knows that his opponents will come out fighting.

“There are no easy games in this league and if we fall into that trap we are in trouble,” he said.

“Ashburton is a very dangerous team when on song, so we will not be taking this game lightly. We know what we need to do, we want to win so we can continue putting pressure on the teams above us, so we will be taking this game very seriously just like every other game.”
