Metropolitan reaping awards of change in tactics

Metropolitan FC has seen a change to its fortunes after a subtle, but vital modification to its game day tactics.

After struggling through a mid-season slump and running the risk of instant relegation, one of the oldest Series Futsal clubs changed its on-court mentality – sticking to its own style.

“Our recent performances are due to a change in tactic. We play our own style no matter the opposition,” said long-time club player Dino Redzepovic.

“We have been unlucky not to collect a few more points, but I believe that luck has finally started to fall our way and we have been more clinical in front of goal.”

It’s this minor change that is likely to see Metropolitan avoid instant relegation. Last week, Metro trounced competition heavyweights Hume FC, ensuring a handy buffer over Collingwood and Ashburton, who will face each this week in a vital relegation fight. “The victory over Hume was a huge win for us against a quality opposition,” said Redzepovic.

“It was especially rewarding because we were undermanned.

“But there are still four games left so we cannot rest on our laurels. We have a great bunch of players at the club and all our hard work has started to pay off.“

While Metropolitan is likely to be forced to play a relegation battle against the team that finishes third in the State Championship, Redzepovic says that if his side retains its Series Futsal status, you can expect to see a new, more professional Metro side.

“Should we remain in Series Futsal Victoria, we will recruit new players to ensure there are good numbers each week which helps with fatigue,” he said.

“We are looking for sponsors for the new season too and are in discussions about a revamp of our kits. This includes training kits, tracksuits, polo shirts for match days and also bags to ensure we look as professional and well organised as possible. “

Metropolitan FC will take on title leaders Pascoe Vale FC at 9:10pm this Friday.
