Series Futsal CEO Peter Parthimos is disappointed in the sudden departure of star Fitzroy player Rico Zulkarnain, but says that “life goes on.”

Parthimos was instrumental in bringing internet sensation Zulkarnain to Series Futsal, combining his star on-court power with his big media following.

But just a few months into Zulkarnain’s contract, the Welsh international has decided to leave the premiership to compete in another international competition.

Parthimos says that he wishes Zulkarnain the best in his new endevours.

“It’s a shame that Rico is leaving. We had a contract for him to stay, but it’s something he feels he needs to do and I was never going to hold someone back,” he told SeriesFutsal.com.

“His contract did not expire until after Series Futsal Australia, but I could sense his desire to play elsewhere. We wish him all the best in his new role.”

While disappointed that Zulkarnain is moving on, Parthimos says that there are players who will fill his void.

“Rico is the type of player that the crowd want to see,” he said.

“These are the type of players we are looking to lure down here.

“We believe that once you play in Series Futsal, it will be hard to find a competition with the hype and excitement that we offer.

“We know that we have a lot of work to do to get the premiership to the main stream level, but as time goes by, we are going to see many Ricos on the court.”
