If the battle for relegation survival between Metropolitan, Ashburton and Collingwood was not enough to whet your futsal appetite this Friday, then the fight to earn a spot in Series Futsal Australia is sure to get you over the line.

While some attention will be on who will retain their place in Series Futsal Victoria, Balwyn and Brunswick are hoping to secure fourth place in the league and the ‘Wildcard’ slot in next month’s Australian national tournament.

Brunswick takes on Fitzroy in a must-win match for Brunswick, but victory will not guarantee the red team a Series Futsal Australia slot. Brunswick will need Balwyn to lose to relegation battlers Collingwood to finish fourth.

SERIES FUTSAL LADDER WITH ONE ROUND REMAINING;

1. Pascoe Vale FC      51
2. Hume FC               39
3. Fitzroy FC              39
4. FC Balwyn             36
5. CF Brunswick        33
6. Ashburton FC        15
7. Metropolitan FC   15
8. FC Collingwood    12

While Hume FC and Fitzroy’s position in Series Futsal Australia is secure, victory will improve their position in next week’s Foz Cup, to be held at the Thomastown Stadium.

Brunswick captain Antonis Apostilakis hopes that his team gets the rub of the green this Friday.

“We need to win and then hopefully Collingwood can beat Balwyn and that will give us a chance,” Apostilakis told SeriesFutsal.com.

“For the club, qualifying for Series FUtsal Australia was something that we had as a target this season. We got a wild card spot last SFA but unfortunately we had to turn it down as it was in Perth and we weren’t expecting that we would get one in our first season back in SFV.

“Hopefully we get some luck this week and results go our way and we can get that wildcard spot.”
