Following the past few weeks of transfer drama between these two teams with Saf Benhim and Mike Ayayi moving from Mt Ev to Melbourne and Melbourne’s goalkeeper Kitharidis transferring to Monash with under a week before the season start this game had plenty of fire. Mt Evelyn did not look affected by the losses however as they raced to a 3-0 lead. Melbourne finally clicked into gear and two goals in a row from Ed Evans put them back in the game. From then on it was all Mt Evelyn however as Solomon Gebru finished off a fine hat trick and Liam McClure put the icing on the cake with a fantastic chip over Hassan Farah to finish the game off with a fine 6-2 win.

Footscray only managed to extend their lead in the second half with an unfortunate own goal from Marino setting the tone for the rest of RMIT’s game. Preston Futsal Club 2-5 Melbourne University Futsal Club

PRE – N.Jamieson, D.Labombarda
MU – J.Woodcock 3, T.Zeitlhofer, L.Jester

After dropping down from State League last season Preston started off their League One campaign with a bang. Goals from Nikolas Jamieson as well as Damian Labombarda who has transferred back to his old club after a season at Wollert meant Preston had a 2-0 lead at the break. The second half however was all Melbourne Uni as the game was flipped on its head. New recruit Jasper Woodcock who returned from a stint overseas was the spark that led to the Melbourne Uni revival as he with his trusty headband scored 3 goals in 10 minutes to give Uni an unlikely lead. After Melbourne Uni had claimed the lead Lucas Jester pulled out a magnificent sliding challenege to block a shot on the line before putting the icing on the cake up the other end with a tap in after a fine one two three move with Zeitlhofer.
