2017 State League Championship – Round 3:

Mickleham Futsal Club (2nd) 5-4 (6th) Ashburton Futsal Club

MICK – M.Petrovic 2, S.Tapia 1, T.Stalevski 1 & A.Boras 1
ASH – T.Shafai 1, A.Behroozi 1, A.Rostami 1 & R.Bahmani 1

The opening game of round three pitted undefeated Mickleham against a struggling Ashburton side looking to find their feet after being relegated. It was the Warriors who struck first through Rasoul Bahmani but the lead was short lived as Anthony Boras hit back to have the scores level at the break.

The second half was a more open affair as Mickleham got a few goals clear before Ashburton fought their way back. But Mickleham would hold off the Ashburton comeback taking home the three points on the back of another double from star man Mario Petrovic to put his side three from three to start the season.

2017 State League Championship – Round 3:

Brimbank Futsal Club (7th) 0-5 (3rd) Hampton Street Futsal Club

BRIM –
HAM – R.Langerak 2, O.Hummenyj-Jamieson 1, A.Sahiti 1 & N.Dean 1

The second game of the night saw struggling Brimbank take on high flying Hampton. Brimbank had been close in the opening two encounters but had nothing to show for it. This time they were out for their first three points of the season. In a solid first half performance Hampton managed to keep Brimbank out who were wasteful in front of goal to be fair but Hampton made the most of it through goals from Orien and shot stopper Nick Dean going into the break at 2-0.

The second half was more of the same as Brimbank could not convert their chances and Hampton continued to punish thanks to goals from Rueben Langerak and Adnan Sahiti making it 4-0. Brimbank switched to the fifth man tactic in search of a goal but it was not their day as Langerak put away his second to cap off a fine performance for Hampton keeping pace with the league leaders.

2017 State League Championship – Round 3:

Mcleod Futsal Club (8th) 6-3 (1st) Collingwood Futsal Club

MAC – H.Shekari 3, N.Toosi 2 & A.Husseni 1
COLL – C.HolmesĀ 3

Next up we saw bottom placed Macleod take on Collingwood in what was a top against bottom fixture. Collingwood were without their top scorer Tremayne Sadler for the first time this season in what would be a good test for the side. In a tight first half the teams could not be split as Hooman Shekari found the net for Macleod while Cameron Holmes netted for Collingwood as we went into the break at 1-1.

The second half saw Macleod jump out to a 3-1 lead before Collingwood battled its way back to trail 4-3 and be right back in the game with eight minutes remaining. A break away from Alex Husseni was converted to ice the game before Shekari put one more away to complete his hat trick and give Macleod their first points of the season while Collingwood suffer its first defeat of the season.

Man of the match – Hooman Shekari (Macleod FC)

2017 State League Championship – Round 3:
Monash Futsal Club (5th) 0-4 (4th) Moreland Futsal Club

MON –
MOR – S.Karanfil 2, M.Vragovski 1 & X.Torres 1

The final game of the night saw Monash take on State League powerhouse Moreland. With both having suffered defeats already this season, today proved a big game in the early stages of the season. It was a close start to the game as Monash were defending very hard and throwing their body around. However Moreland still found a way through thanks to Matthew Vragovski & Selim Karanfil who found the net to give Moreland a 2-0 lead at the half.

The second was much the same story as Monash spent majority of the game defending but did make some good chances during the second half, only to be denied by Varigos. Another to Karanfil and a debut goal for Xavi Perez Torres gave Moreland their second win on the bounce as the side looks to be gelling nicely. As for Monash they can hold their heads high for an honourable display and will have learnt a lot to take with them for the rest of the season.

Man of the match – Stavros Varigos (Moreland FC)
