The first clash of round thirteen saw bottom of the table Balwyn face off against Pascoe Vale. In a tight opening to the game it took youngster Maia Watson-Las to come off the bench and score a classy chip to give the lions the lead. They would double the advantage shortly after with Abbey Flight continuing her scoring form as she helped her side go into the half time break leading 2-0.

Pascoe added another after the break as Liesl Woods found the net as the lions had all but sured up the result. Pascoe hit a number of posts as they could have had a lot more goals, though they only managed one more as Flight added her second of the game to cap off a solid performance, sealing a comfortable win.

Moreland FC 4-3 FC Carlton Heart

MOR – E.Hasan 2 & R.Saber 2
CARL – M.Kirk-Eaton, K.Foster & R.Davies

The match of the round was upon us and it definitely lived up to the hype. Moreland drew first blood as Rebecca Saber continued her red hot form with a left foot stunner from range to open the scoring. Ebru Hasan then doubled the lead as Moreland looked in ominous form. A long throw from Sam Dowling was headed in by Morgan Kirk Eaton to halve the deficit as Carlton began to swing the momentum, and on the stroke of half time the Heart were level as a lovely free kick from Rebecca Davies found Katie Foster at the back post who finished in style to have the game level at 2-2 at the break.

The second half began at the same high intensity as the first with Carlton slightyly on top, Moreland would again take the lead with another quality strike from Saber, this one slightly less spectacular but it mattered little in the end as the Blues regain the lead. Ebru Hasan would then restore the two goal advantage for Moreland as they looked as if they had done enough. A fantastic solo goal from Davies shortly after saw her pick out the bottom corner to have the game within one once again. Plenty of chances, saves and posts for both sides in the closing stages but neither added to their tallies as Moreland took a crucial victory which moves them into second place on goal difference, surviving a fast and physical affair.

Player of the game – Rebecca Saber (Moreland FC)
