Our first ever game in the Youth league saw Balwyn face a young but experienced Fawkner outfit. Fawkner were favourites for the league and got off to a good start as Aaliyah Elrafei opened the scoring. Balwyn hit back through Jen Semean who finished her one on one chance, but Fawkner would again take the lead with Liana Lenmo finding the net. Fawkner then added the next three goals with both Lenmo & Elrafei adding to their earlier strikes along with another to goal machine Laila Abdullatif giving them a commanding 5-1 lead. A cheeky chip from Semean saw who pull a goal back for the Stars as they remained in the hunt at the break.
Fawkner continued their momentum in the second half as Alana Cerne found the net to extend the Fawkner lead. Kitty Masters struck a bullet into the top corner for Balwyn as they continued to hang in the game and needed the next goal if they were to stand any chance. Unfortunately for Balwyn it didn’t come as Laila Abdullatif struck home her effort to all but seal the game. Kitty Masters then beat her player down the line and finished as Balwyn continued to battle but it wasn’t going to be enough as good finish from Liana Lenmo killed off any chance of a comeback, before Cerne finished off her fine game with her second goal of the game to wrap up the points for Fawkner.
