Carlton Of Old?

Just 7 weeks the Heart were in the relegation play offs and came perilously to going down with Mickleham taking the Heart all the way into extra time. 4 Rounds in the Heart sit on top of the Series Futsal ladder.

It’s way too early to make any bold calls now however their 9-0 demolition of the Altona Nights on Friday night was a hint that when Carlton gets in the mood, they are near unstoppable. For 46 straight minutes the Heart worked relentlessly, never taking their foot off the pedal. It’s the sort of mentality we became accustomed to when the Heart dominated the league for 3 seasons, now it’s a question of consistency.

Pimenta An MVP Smokey

Filled with high profile recruits, there is one player at Campbellfield that is making a huge impact and that man is Henrique Pimenta. Pimenta has been exceptional so far this season, contributing with goals, assists and setting up the warriors play.

The Warriors currently sit in 4th place only separated from first on goal difference and if they maintain this kind of form Pimenta could find himself in MVP conversations. Pimenta has the fire power around him to compliment his creativity and will continue to worry teams all season.

Can Moreland Respond?

Who would have thought that 4 rounds in Moreland would be sitting in the relegation zone with a 1 and 3 and record? Last season’s runners up came into this season as hot favourites after recruiting back to back MVP Cosimo Russo and goal kicking machine Rico Hauser, however they have not had the start that they would have expected with their only win coming via a penalty shootout against the bottom of the table Regent.

They have had their issues in getting a full squad on the court with Vaz missing the opening 3 rounds and countless others coming in and out of the squad, an issue they will need to address immediately. More urgent however is their keeper woes, with Varigos transferring over to Preston while Apostolakis and Timmins absent leaving youngster Khaled Attic with the duties between the sticks. A poor start for the favourites which they will need to overcome to be a chance at the end of the season.

#PizzaOut

What manager Abdullahi Mohamed was thinking in that second half on Friday night is anyone’s guess. Trailing 3-0 at the main break the Wolves came out firing in the second half scoring 4 unanswered goals to take and early second half lead. Questions must be asked as to why Mohamed took so long to call a time out? Most managers would have called the time out after conceding the first 2, a bad manager would have waited until it was 3-3, however Mohamed (aka Pizza) didn’t call a time out until his side was trailing 4-3. From there the Panthers were able to compose themselves and muster a draw before eventually going down on penalties.

It was too little too late from the inexperienced manager who could have stemmed the flow of goals with an early time out. It is clear that Mohamed’s managerial skills are not up to scratch and the Regent City fans are starting to lose patience with the hashtag #PizzaOut trending on facebook and twitter within the futsal community.
