Recap
The last game of the night saw State League Champions and newly promoted Brunswick take on Metropolitan, who narrowly avoided relegation at the end of last season. Both teams were still looking for their first points of the season, after disappointing losses in the opening two rounds. Brunswick opened the scoring through a excellently taken free kick from Ruz Roslan. Metro hit back through Alija Redzepovic as he finished from the edge of the area. Mark Borchert then put the bloods back infront as he tapped home a back post switch from Antonis Apostolakis. Ben Rigby then doubled Brunswick’s advantage as he finished into the bottom left corner from just outside the area. A.Redzepovic then slid in at close range to flick the ball into the bottom left corner to peg one back Metropolitain just before half time.
As Metro has only managed to field five players, they had no substitutes to rotate throughout the match, and this started to show in the second half as they started to fatigue. Rigby added his second from just outside the area after skinning his man down the right, to take the lead to back to two. As Metro pushed forward for the to try and salvage a point from the match, their tired legs struggled to get back when the lost the ball. This freed up space for Brunswick to hit on the counter, and they did just that as Joshua Pulvirenti and Apostolakis scored in a matter of minutes to end any hopes of a Metro come back. A final score line that perhaps did not reflect the true nature of the match, as Metro, despite having no substitutes they put up an impressive fight, hitting the post multiple times and forcing a few good saves from Brunswick keeper Giang Pham. As for Brunswick, a massive three points which will go a long way to helping them settle in Series Futsal Victoria.
