Recap
The third instalment of Series Futsal action tonight saw the young Fitzroy squad take on Carlton. The Heart and Fitzroy were both looking to bounce back from losses in the last round so the match was shaped up to be a tight contest. It was a very close affair from the first whistle with solid defending from both teams and few clear cut chances created. Midway through the first half, Joaquin Jiminez opened up the scoring as he finished from close range, but this was a rare highlight, as Carlton went into half time a goal to the good.
The second half continued to be a hard fought, close contest, with both sides finding it hard to carve out geniune opportunities. Eventually, however, Jiminez picked up his second of the game as was found at the back post from a side ball. The game continued in its tense stalemate manner as Carlton sat back and defended more. Fitzroy struggled to really test Puthalakath in the Carlton goal, until the final five minutes of the match. Fitzroy to their credit kept pushing and eventually it paid off, as Jackson Shaw skinned his man down the line, before lining up a ball to the back post where Llewelyn Stone was on hand to tap home. Finally with less than two minutes remaining Shaw saw his shot from a free kick deflect past Puthalakath to steal a point for Fitzroy.
