Recap
The second match of the night saw a David and Goliath match up of sorts, as defending champions Pascoe Vale took on newly promoted side Brunswick. Pascoe needed three points to keep them in touch with Balwyn at the top of the table, while a win for Brunswick would take them four points clear of seventh placed Fitzroy. It was clear from the start of the game that Brunswick had come with a game plan to set up from the back against Pascoe, soak up the pressure and hope to hit on the counter. AS it were, Pascoe dominated possession for the vast majority of the first half and indeed the match. Brunswick, however, held out well for a large part of the half, as goal keeper Giang Pham martialled his team to not let Pascoe slip through. Eventually, though, Pascoe Vale found the break though, as a Caro slammed home a low shot from distance after being teed up from a side ball. Brunswick continued to hold out for the remainder of the half, going into the break only a goal down.
The second half saw Brunswick carve out a couple more chances, however, Pascoe coninuted to dominate possession and eventually Caro added his and his team’s second with a fierce toe poke into the roof of the net from the left side of the court. While Brunswick were defending very well and denying Pascoe multiple attempts at goal, they struggled to get anything going up front, and this only allowed Pascoe to apply more pressure to their goal. Finally Richard Ferguson slipped his finished through Pham’s legs to make it three, and that was how it would finish. An impressive display from a resolute Brunswick side, but ultimately Pascoe Vale would prove too good.
