Recap
The third instalment of Round 5 Series Futsal action saw a bottom of the table clash as bottom placed Metropolitan took on second last placed Fitzroy. A must win for both teams, as they looked to climb away from the relegation zone. It was Fitzroy who got off to the better start as a scramble in the box was eventually headed home by Fitzroy’s new signing Leonardo Correa. Correa soon made it two in as many minutes as he toe poked the ball from just outside the area into the bottom left corner. Aside from Correa’s two minute spell of quality the game seemed to be somewhat in a stalemate as both teams traded possession, but could not carve out too many clear cut chances.
The second half started brightly for Fitzroy as Angelo Fusca finished across goal from the right side of the area into the bottom left corner. Fitzroy were starting to play some much better futsal as the second half drew on and Correa soon chalked up his hatrick with a finish from the right side of the court. Having gone four goals up, Fitzroy seemed to take their foot off the gas somewhat and allowed Metro to get back into the match. A long range strike from Alex Cobo pegged one back for Metro, before a moment to forget from Fitzroy shot stopped Aaron Yu allowed Alija Redzepovic to poke home from close range. Fitzroy responded to this pressure from Metro, however, as Correa was found at the back post for his fourth. Metro are never a team to go down without a fight, and Josh Slovacek netted to peg the lead back to two. It wasn’t enough, however, as late in the game Scott Rogan would put the game beyond any doubt as he rounded Kitharidis before slotting into an empty net. A first win of the season for Fitzroy which is a step in the right direction, as for Metro its back to drawing board once more.
