Recap
The first game of Round 6 at the world class Mt. Evelyn Stadium saw what was sure to be a cracking match up as Hume faced off against Fitzroy. Matches between Hume and Fitzroy have always been close affairs, with their last match ending 3-2 to Fitzroy, also in Mt. Evelyn. Going into the game, Hume had never managed to defeat Fitzroy in a game at Mt. Evelyn, but they got off to the perfect start as Nejdett Sahin teed up Tony Saric from a free kick play, and he lashed it home into the roof of the net. Fitzroy dominated possession for for the majority of the first half but struggled to create many chances up front, while Hume kept Aaron Yu busy when they hit on the counter. Neither team would find the back of the net again for the remainder of the half, however, as the Hume remained a goal to the good going into half time.
Hume doubled their advantage within the first minute of the second half, when Tony Saric beat his man down the left before powering his shot into the bottom right. Hume sat back and looked to hold out, and hit Fitzroy on the counter for the remainder of the game, and this meant Fitzroy would continue to dominate possession. As the half went on they grew into the game more and more, creating an increasing amount of chances. Eventually they broke through, when Scott Rogan volleyed home from close range after seeing his initial shot blocked. Fitzroy could sense they were right back in it as they surged forward time and time again, and before long Rogan would lash home from the right into the left side of the goal to steal a point for the Roys.
