Recap
The first game of Round 11 saw rivals Carlton and Fitzroy face off in what has always been an exciting encounter in the past. After a somewhat cagey opening few encounters, Carlton broke the dead lock when Joey Conroy managed to poke the ball past Aaron Yu from the edge of the area. Fitzroy responded well to going behind as they held a long period of possession and pressed well with out the ball until they eventually found the equaliser. Angelo Fusca won the ball in the middle of the court before drilling a low shot into the bottom left corner. Fitzroy soon hit the front when Cosimo Russo found Fusca bursting into the area and he poked it past Alonso. Fitzroy kept the foot down through a mecurial run down the wing by Fusca, bringing the ball from defence to attack to find the back of the net to rap up his first half hatrick. Chaaban Rajab kept the Heart in the game with a long range effort finding the top left corner. Concluding the first half 2-3 in favour of Fitzroy.
The second half began in the same fasion as the first with both teams struggling to find another break through. A moment of madness from Joaquin Jiminez saw him raise his arm to block an on target shot, the referees promptly gave him his marching orders. The resulting penalty was converted by Scott Rogan taking the lead back out to two goals. Carlton’s frustration at being behind began to show leading to a flurry of fowls which eventually resulted in a 10 meter penalty which was missed by Leonardo Correa, but they soon gave away another. The second penalty was cooly tucked away by Jimmy Soufis to all but put the game to bed. In the final few minutes Jackson Shaw would deftly flick home Fitzroy’s sixth goal to round out a comfortable win.
