Recap
The final game of the night saw two sides looking to bounce back from tough loses last week. Hume had been upset badly by lower table opposition Metropolitan, while Fitzroy had come so close to only bitterly lose to Pascoe Vale. Fitzroy clearly had a point a point to prove as they came racing out of the blocks, with Scott Rogan netting four goals in the first eight minutes of the match. Having raced to a four goal lead, Fitzroy took their foot off the gas somewhat and this allowed Hume back into the game. Ubeyde Cicek was found at the back post for a tap in, but that was all that Hume could muster in terms of a fight back as Fitzroy went into the break in a commanding position.
The second half was a similar story to the first, as Fitzroy stepped it up again and piled on the pressure on Hume’s goal. Igor Boroni was the first to strike with an effort from the edge of the area to put Fitzroy ahead five goals to one. What would happen next in the match though was a moment of brilliance, as Boroni nutmegged his defender before scooping a ridiculous lob over Chappell and into the left side of the goal, an effort that will surely be one of the goals of the season. Moe Matar would flick an effort home to restore a bit of respectability to the score board, but Fitzroy weren’t finished. Rogan was set up at the back post for a tap in for his fifth before Cosimo Russo drilled a balled to the back post for Jimmy Soufis to volley home to cap off an emphatic result for the men in yellow.
