The first game of Round 17 in Brunswick saw second placed Balwyn look to stay away from the mid table with a win while Ashburton need points to stay away from the relegation zone. Valerio Celenza got Balwyn on the board first with a bottom corner finish from the edge of the area. Salvi Michele was next to score for the men in blue as finished from a tight angle on the right, before Andrea Zaccone finished of Balwyn’s fourth to have them in a commanding position at the break.
The second half saw Ashburton come back into the game more, but Balwyn continued to dominate. Michele added his second of the game to start the half as finished from close range past Azami. Ahmad Hassani finally got Ashburton on the board with a venomous left footed strike into the roof of the net. Michele wrapped up his hatrick as he slammed home a shot at the back post, before Zaccone hit a stunning effort from range in off the crossbar to have the score at seven goals to one. A long throw from Balwyn keeper Steve Castavan found Robert Armellini who brought the ball down with a deft touch to take the ball round Azami before rolling the ball in the empty net. With the game all wrapped up for Balwyn, they took their foot off the gas some what and this allowed Ashburton to add some respectability to the score line. Two goals from Samim Mehjerdi and a cracking effort from Behrad Behzadpour brought the score back to 8-4, but Balwyn would come away with a convincing victory.
