Recap

Fitzroy would have expected a victory coming into tonight’s clash with Carlton. Given the record of the struggling Carlton side and the recent form of Fitzroy’s superstars; the game shaped up as a chance to get a step closer to fourth placed Brunswick. For Carlton it was a struggle to climb out of relegation.

The first half went against all expectations as Carlton came out firing. The stars looked to have aligned for Carlton as all their best players had come out with a point to prove. Ernie Simsek managed to find the back of the net twice and Dylan Giovic and Cuneyt Aydin had been on fire scoring once each. As the first half came to a close things looked great for Carlton with a four goals to nil half time margin and some fantastic form to go in with.

A harsh half time address and some changes in structure saw Fitzroy come out flying in the second half. From the whistle to mark the start of the second 23 minutes Fitzroy looked determined with attack after attack being repelled by Carlton goal keeper Samir Puthalakth. Samir looked unbeatable until Cosimo Russo fired a powerful shot into the back of his net. From there the dominoes began to fall for Carlton as Fitzroy tightened their grip on the game. Russo managed to find the back of the net twice more before a quick time out was called for Carlton. This brought what looked to be a change as Atay Ibrahim quickly found a way to score back for Carlton and they again had a two goal buffer. This didn’t prove to be enough as Fitzroy’s superstar Scott Rogan managed to find the back of the net twice more. This was where the game came to a halt as neither team could break down each others defenses.

The draw leaves Fitzroy still three points behind rivals Brunswick and in danger of being jumped by Ashburton. Whilst Carlton remain at the bottom with relegation talk becoming very serious.
