Recap
Hume’s hopes of finishing top two rested on a win against Ashburton. Ashburton are fighting to get out of the bottom three and continue there run in the top Futsal devision. The setting for a heated blockbuster.
The first half was dominated by some fast play by Hume as they moved the ball around with ease and picked their way through the Ashburton defence. Ashburton where taking their opportunities well and worked hard to remain close to their opposition. The half time score line read five goals to two in favour of Hume but that didn’t full reflect the state of the first half.
The second half started in heated fashion with fouls being given by both teams. Ashburton came out with some great attacking futsal to close the margin to only one goal. Hume worked hard to keep their opponents at arms length responding to each Ashburton goal with a goal of their own. This looked to be the way that the half would close out. Until tempers began to flare and Hume gave away some foolish fouls. A fifth foul led to a last minute penalty that gave Ashburton the lead and it stayed that way until the game came to a close.
Ashburton’s win may open the door for them to climb out of the bottom three. Hume are now unable to break into the top two with Brunswick still only one win behind them.
