Recap
Coming into the game there was only one point separating the two teams with Fitzroy in fourth behind Hume in third. The game looked set to be a massive clash.
The first half was absolutely dominated by Hume from the first minute. Hume came in with confidence and great control on the ball scoring at will in the first half. All the stars where fired up for Hume with Muhhammed Temel, Nejdett Sahin and Moe Matar all coming to the party. For Fitzroy it was a struggle, they managed to scrape a goal late in the half through Alistair Dunlop. The half time score looked bad for Fitzroy at five goals to one.
Fitzroy came into the second half with some restored confidence as they attempted to overcome the deficit. The come back looked good as they managed to score early to build up some steam. Despite the continued efforts Hume’s tight defending and some poor shots meant that Fitzroy looked like they weren’t going to find themselves a goal. On the counter Hume still looked dangerous but didn’t have the same clinical finishing that set up their lead in the first half. Frustrations began to grow withing the Fitzroy camp as they continued to waste good opportunities. These frustrations boiled over as Fitzroy imploded in the final minutes to concede two more goals before full time. Undoing all the hard work they had done in the half.
Fitzroy will be disappointing that they let the opportunity go to waste. Hume will be pleased that they could bring their best when the pressure was on.
