Recap
The prime time six o’clock match up of Round 9 saw Pascoe Vale take on Brunswick in what was a close battle when the two sides last played. Pascoe welcomed back star flanker Brenno Polatti, who has served his five match ban, and Brunswick were sporting a massive new signing in the shape of Futsalroo Adam Cooper. The men in black and white started quicker in this clash as Andre Caro spun past his defender before putting his shot through Brunswick goal keeper, Giang Pham’s legs. Caro soon doubled his tally and his team’s lead, when he finished from the right side into the top left corner. Caro’s two goals were all that separated the two sides for the remainder of the first half, however a minute before half time, Brunswick were awarded a penalty when Daniel Cappellaro was deemed to have handled the ball in the area. Up stepped Cooper who slammed the penalty into the top left to have Brunswick within one going into the break.
The second half started in a close and tense manner as both teams played the ball around and remained solid at the back. The first goal of the second half was eventually brought about by an error from Cooper who’s miss-placed pass was intercepted by Joao Da Silva, who whipped his shot into the bottom corner from around about the 10 metre penalty spot. Brunswick eventually hit back after a period of pressure, when Cooper’s shot was only parried back into play and Chris Triantafilopoulos was on hand to bury the rebound. With less than two minutes remaining Pascoe broke through again when Da Silva won the ball pressing high, before setting up Lucas Kruel to all but wrap up the points. With seconds remaining, Matthew Sesay grabbed a consolation goal from close range, but it wasn’t enough as Pascoe held on to secure an important three points.
