Recap
Ashburton’s round one loss to Pascoe Vale showed how good the team can be when they bring their best futsal. For Brunswick a strong win over Metro had them sitting happy on top of the table. Both teams came into the game with belief and it showed from the opening minute.
The game opened with great attacking futsal coming from both teams as Ashburton managed to score the opening goal of the game with a series of one touch passes resulting in a great finish from the right hand side of the goal. Brunswick responded quickly with two goals of their own. From there it was goal for goal and at half time the difference was only one goal in the favor of Brunswick.
The Thomastown crowd was oozing excitement as the second half kicked off. Ashburton quickly scored and diminished the half-time deficit. The Ashburton supporters where in full voice as their boys again looked in the race for a big upset win. But just as Ashburton equalised it seemed Brunswick was able to take their game to the next level and score again to go ahead. This deadlock of goal for goal was broken late in the half as a mistake by Ashburton keeper, Omid Azami, the only blemish on what was an inspired performance, cost Ashburton a late goal putting them two goals behind. Following the second goal Ashburton’s manager made the decisions to play fifth man. Ashburton moved the ball well but the Brunswick defence proved too strong and despite some great efforts the final buzzer rang and Ashburton where a goal behind Brunswick.
Again Ashburton showed how competitive they can be but fell just short. On the other hand Brunswick managed another win and will remain on top with a frightening goal difference.
