Recap
Ashburton got their first win of the 2016/2017 season against Collingwood last week and will be looking to build on it against Fitzroy who have struggled since winning their first game of the season.
Ashburton got off to a great start with an early goal giving them an early lead. Following this goal the game became stagnant as neither team was able to break through the opposition defense. The first half was a slug fest with little or no breakthrough as both teams struggled to make the best of their opportunities and both goal keepers bringing some unbeatable efforts.
The second half was a similar affair with goals being hard to come by. Fitzroy where doing all the attacking in the second half as they attempted to equalize. It proved successful as they scored early in the second half. The success was short lived though as Ashburton quickly scored to again take the lead. The game again slowed down with Fitzroy attacking but unable to break through. A time out was called and Fitzroy moved into playing fifth man. This proved to be a stroke of genius as they quickly scored through a penalty awarded due to a hand ball. Fitzroy went on to quickly score another goal with the fifth man. They sealed the game soon after scoring a third goal in the last five minutes of the match.
