Recap
It is the contenders versus the champions, Hume versus Pascoe Vale. Both teams come into the game undefeated after six rounds. At the end of this game, only one team will keep that credential, the other becomes labelled as mortal, beatable. Something has got to give.
Hume was dealt a big blow before a ball was kicked, when star player Muhammed Temel pulled out in the warm-up due to a corked thigh. The last-minute setback meant a change of tactic for Hume, and they evidently started the game the slower of the two teams. Pascoe Vale controlled the game early, with their early domination resulting in them scoring the first goal of the game. Hume however, was not ready to give up its undefeated record and it hit back to wipe out Pascoe Vale’s advantage. Pascoe Vale won back control of the game and managed to grind out another goal to take a one goal lead into the half-time break after what was a closely contested first half.
Pascoe Vale showed its class in the second half, defending its lead with organisation in defence, with the players proving they are about more than just the South-American attacking flair they’ve become renowned for. Hume dominated possession as it poured men forward as it desperately tried to get the goal to get it level and save its streak. Pascoe Vale played on the counter-attack, trying to catch Hume on the break. Pascoe Vale’s keeper, Felipe Bley was brilliant between the posts, protecting the goal as if it was his own child and denying Hume from taking its chances. Ultimately, it was Hume’s sixth foul of the half which cost them as Andre Caro converted the resulting ten-meter penalty to extend Pascoe Vale’s lead to 3-1 with not long to go. Pascoe Vale scored a fourth goal seconds before the final whistle to secure a massive win that leaves it as the only undefeated team in the competition.
