The 2016/2017 season has been tough for both Metro and Ashburton. They have only one win between them. Both teams are coming off a loss and both will believe they have a chance to pick up a win here.
The first half was riddled with mistakes as the nerves of a potential win was playing on the mind of players from both teams. Both teams where moving the ball well but in the final third both teams collapsed. Eventually Metro broke the deadlock as they found a way to get the ball into Ashburton’s net. The game again turned into a slog fest as opportunities where missed and both teams struggled to get a score on the board. Finally late in the half Ashburton equalised. As the half time buzzer rang both teams sat at one goal each.
The game opened up suddenly as the second half began with Metro taking control of possession. The domination of possession was reflected on the scoreboard as Metro quickly put away two goals to open up a two goal lead. Ashburton became frustrated as the game began to slip from their grip. This frustration was reflected as Iraj Hani made a poor tackle and was immediately sent off. The game was all downhill from there for Ashburton as Metro ran out comfortable winners adding the first win of their season.
