Recap
Both teams have struggled in the 2016/2017 season with only three wins between them. This will mean that both teams come in with hope at the prospect of a win. Collingwood’s recent form has been solid as they have made some very good teams work hard to get wins. Ashburton put in a poor performance last week following their big win over Pascoe Vale and will be hoping the team shows up with some good form.
Ashburton came flying out of the blocks completely shocking the unprepared Collingwood as they got off to a quick two goal lead. Both goals coming in the first five minutes left Collingwood rattled and Ashburton looked to be in full control of the game. This quickly changed though as Collingwood captain Ben Monteleone scored a team lifting goal to give his team the momentum. This was quickly followed by some super skills from Giovanny Garcia to even out the scores. Ashburton still had plenty in the tank though and the half swung back and forth for its remaining minutes and at the half Collingwood had the ascendancy as they sat one goal ahead.
Collingwood took a great deal of confidence from their half time lead and put the pressure on Ashburton to open the second half. Scoring two quick goals to leave their opponents in the dust and open up a three goal lead. Ashburton struck back once but it wasn’t enough as Collingwood piled on another goal. Ashburton fought hard to the finish but fell short going down by two goals.
