Recap
Ashburton came off the high of beating second placed Hume on Friday, and was hoping to repeat its heroics against first placed Pascoe Vale. The defending champions extended their lead on Friday night after capitalising on Hume’s slip up and were sitting six points clear of their nearest challenger at the start of the round.
Pascoe Vale made a strong start to the game as expected, scoring two early goals before Ashburton could get into the game. The champions were playing with confidence, strutting their stuff in front of a packed grand stand. Pascoe Vale troubled the scorers twice more in the half, extinguishing Ashburton’s lingering fire from Friday night in the process.
It didn’t take Pascoe Vale long to add to its lead in the second period, continuing its profound dominance in the match. There were glimpses of quality displayed by Ashburton, mainly through its number 7, Behrad Behzadpour, but the game was as one sided as can be imagined. Pascoe Vale added three more before Ashburton found a consolation through Behzadpour.
Man of the match: James Szabo (Pascoe Vale)
