Brunswick had the chance to get back into the top four after Balwyn lost earlier in the day. Metropolitan had a different battle to fight, needing a win to get away from certain relegation.

Not surprisingly, Brunswick started the game the stronger of the two sides. It broke through for the opening goal of the game. but Metro equalised not long after. Brunswick scored again and managed to keep Metro out for the remainder of the half.

The second half was both entertaining and eventful. It included seven goals, a penalty kick, five yellow cards and a sending off to Brunswick’s Antonis Apostolakis. Metro equalised and took the lead during the half, but were pegged back when Brunswick’s Matthew Vragovski equalised with a long range effort into the bottom corner. The game went to a penalty shootout. Both teams missed their opening penalties. Metro missed its second penalty but Brunswick’s Vragovski made no mistake converting an inch perfect penalty, going off the post and in. Metro’s final penalty also hit the woodwork; but on that occasion the crossbar was not the penalty taker’s friend, as the ball bounced off the underside of the bar and out, think David Trezeguet’s penalty in the 2006 World Cup final. That sealed the points for Brunswick, as it finishes the week in the same ladder position that it started it.
