Moreland have secured their first Series Futsal Victoria (SFV) win since their promotion at the second time of asking, scraping past a resilient Balwyn two win by two goals to one.

Balwyn were extremely undermanned, with their star player Michele Salvi failing to recover from injury in time for the match; but they showed immense heart to remain competitive and push a star-studded Moreland all the way.

Neither team could trouble the scorers in the first half, despite Moreland peppering the Balwyn goal, with keeper Omid Abdollahi putting in a super-human performance.

Moreland managed to break through in the second half when Ben Monteleone made the most of a scrap around the penalty area to fire home.

Monteleone got on the score-sheet again when Abdollahi made a rare mistake, but he was avenged by his teammate Jake Coutinho, who scored to get Balwyn back in the game.

However, Moreland managed to hold on for the win, despite Balwyn’s best efforts.
