Western Wolves have secured their second win of the season, beating a Balwyn side that looked rejuvenated in certain parts of the game.

Both teams looked were at close to full-strength, with Michele Salvi and Michele Giotta both returning for Balwyn, but only the Wolves looked to be in the peak of their powers as they raced out to a two-nil lead within five minutes of kick-off.

Balwyn managed to stem the flow of the Wolves’ goals until the half-time break, but couldn’t find the back of the net themselves.

The scores remained unchanged until the 17 minute mark of the second half, at which point Balwyn called a time-out and emerged from the huddle with the fifth-man tactic deployed.

It back-fired against The Blues though, with the Wolves adding three more goals, including one from their goalkeeper Bilal Atik as he punted the ball into the open net.

Balwyn scored one goal while deploying the fifth-man, but it was merely a consolation.
