Fitzroy have remained within touching distance of ladder-leaders Carlton Heart with a resilient win over arch rivals Pascoe Vale.

The first half was a tight affair and it remained goalless until the final five minutes of the period when Pascoe Vale broke through courtesy of Brenno Polatti.

Fitzroy managed to hit back before the break through Scott Rogan, and the two teams deservedly went into the break unseparated.

Fitzroy and Pascoe Vale once again exchanged goals in the second half, and heading into the final four minutes of the match, the scores remained tied at two-all.

But when Pascoe Vale coughed the ball up in the middle of the court, Fitzroy captain Fernando De Moraes found himself through on goal and one-on-one with Pascoe Vale keeper Felipe Bley.

De Moraes made no mistake in sliding the ball past Bley’s outstretched left arm and Fitzroy had the lead they so desperately wanted.

In Pascoe Vale’s pursuit of an equaliser with the utilisation of the fly keeper, they were caught out by Fitzroy who scored a fourth goal to seal the result.
