The game shaped up as a battle between a proven team in Hume and an up and coming team who have just been promoted into Series Futsal in Collingwood. Collingwood came into the game as a mystery to everyone but after the final whistle blew we know a bit more about what they are capable of.
The first half demonstrated Collingwood’s uncertainty in their elevated position in the higher league. They struggled with their control and where clearly nervous whilst attempting to pass the ball and making some simple defensive mistakes. This allowed Hume to get the upper hand early. With a lead and confidence Hume looked to put their opponents to the sword but Collingwood showed some real fight and worked hard defensively to keep themselves from being run over. Despite the great defensive efforts they continued to struggle in front of goal gong into the half time break down two goals to none.
The second half saw much of the same as the pressure of Series Futsal began to get to Collingwood; Hume got the jump on their inexperienced opposition and took their chances putting Collingwood further behind. The situation was getting into dire territory for Collingwood as they still had not managed to register a score and where being well beaten by their opponents. This is where Collingwood really impressed despite their lack of experience and the state of the score line they lifted and managed to score their first goal at the highest level of futsal. The game ended with a score line that read five goals to one.
Hume will be happy with the win as they where clinical and now prepare to face Balwyn for a chance in the Futsal Oz cup final. Collingwood will be happy with their first appearance in Series Futsal competition and will be looking to build on it as they fight their way through their first season of Series Futsal.
