The third instalment of Series Futsal Action saw an in form Carlton Heart take on newly promoted side Ashburton, who were still looking for their first win. It was the underdogs in Ashburton who struck first, as Mehran Shafiei’s shot just outside the area was deflected in for an own goal by Cameron Holmes. A very close contest on the larger Mt Evelyn court meant that both teams found it hard to break each other down, and the single goal was all that was scored for the almost all of the first half. J.P Nicolacopoulos eventually equalised for Carlton when he was found with a pass to the back post from the left side. These two goals were all the first half would see as the scores were locked level at the break.
It was again AShburton who struck first in the second half as Asghar Aashami struck his shot in off the post from just outside the area. Carlton seemed to switch off defensively as they pushed for an equaliser and they were punished for it as Ashburton hit twice more on the counter. First Samim Mehjerdi knocked the ball home after his inital shot was blocked, before Shafiei brilliantly dribbled past two players before slotting past Puthalakath. With less than 10 minutes left Carlton finally started to spring into life, applying some serious pressure on the Ashburton goal. Ernie Simsek hit one back for the heart as he flicked the ball over Azami in goal from the edge of the area. Soon after he converted a 10 metre penalty to have Carlton back within one. It was too little too late, however, as Ashburton managed to hold out for the last two minutes of stop clock time to record their first win of the new Series Futsal season.
