It has been a dominant display by Pascoe Vale FC in the 2016 Series Futsal Victoria premiership, and the team goes into this weekend’s round at Mount Evelyn with a chance to clinch the title.

The fearsome Pascoe Vale team needs just one win from the remaining six rounds to secure a record-breaking ninth Series Futsal Victoria crown.

To secure the crown, Pascoe Vale will need to overcome a red-hot Metropolitan FC who are on a five-game winning-streak.

Despite going through the first 15 games with just one loss, Pascoe Vale captain Andre Caro says that the league has never been closer.

“The difference from last season to this season is that everyone got better and every game is harder,” he told SeriesFutsal.com.

“We have been lucky in some cases to get over the line. We’ve had some extremely close matches against Fitzroy, Ashburton and Brunswick – games that could have gone either way, but we’ve been lucky enough to come out on top.

“If those games had gone against us, we’d be fighting it out with the other teams.

“Also working in our favour is that the other teams have been taking points away from each other, so it’s given us a nice buffer.”

With the Series Futsal title within sight, Caro says that once the title is wrapped up, all focus will be put onto the upcoming Series Futsal Australia tournament, to be played for the first time in Perth this October.

“At Pascoe Vale, we focus on one game at a time. Of course, it would be nice to wrap up the title so we can start to prepare for Series Futsal Australia,” he said.

“The Series Futsal Australia tournament will be one of the hardest to win. It is being played away from Melbourne for the first time, so we need to be in the right frame of mind.

“If we can win our domestic league now, it will give us a good chance to push for another Series Futsal Australia title.”

The top three Series Futsal Victoria teams will gain automatic entry into Series Futsal Australia. Pascoe Vale’s winning season has already secured its place, and the battle for the other two guaranteed spots is anyone’s game. Every team remains a mathematical chance of securing a Perth berth, but with little to separate the mid-field runners, expect to see some spirited futsal in the final six rounds of the premiership.
