Going in at half time with the game at 2-1 to Footscray everything seemed close, however a red card for the South Melbourne keeper Judicael led to a flood of goals as Footscray piled on 6 unanswered to cruise home.

After a cautious start to the game it was 1-0 to Vermont at the half after Melbourne Uni missed a penalty on the stroke of half time. The second half was a completely different game as Vermont led by captain Harold Nguyen steamed home to win convincingly 8-2.

In the most important game of the season for both teams nothing but a blockbuster would be expected. What a game it was with two teams fighting tooth and nail for every ball with promotion on the line. Featuring an electric atmosphere filled with tension and expectation it drew stand out performances from Preston’s Fodi Karatzas and Doncaster’s Brandon Ong in a classic battle. In a game not short on controversy it was Ong’s Doncaster who took the win and an important 3 points to deny Preston the title this week.

After Preston’s loss it meant that Monash were still in the hunt and they knew any slip up would cost them. It was a cautious game from then off the back of putting 15 past Melbourne Uni last week but a 4 goals to 1 victory is all they needed to take all the points.
